My Approach to Painting...
I have always been drawn to painting subjects bathed in beautiful light and color. My goal when I am plein air painting outside is to not simply render what I am seeing, but to summarize what I am feeling and experiencing and convey those things to the viewer.

Summarizing involves simplifying what I see, I often selectively omit many of the details seen in reality and simplify the scene into interlocking shapes of light and dark colors, pushing the  color chroma, temperature and values.

In this painting you get a sense of peace and quiet, the stillness of the water. You feel  the coolness of the shade under the trees, as well as the warmth of the approaching sunlight. You can even imagine stepping out onto the cold, flat rocks to get across to the other bank.
